Your Google Business Profile: the checks to do today

People who find you on Google or Maps often never reach your website: they look at your profile, check whether you are open, then call or set off. If the profile says something wrong, you lose that customer before you ever meet them. Here is what to check, in order of importance.

In short

  1. Opening hours, holidays included

If Google says you are open and people find the shutter down, they do not come back. Holidays have their own special hours.

  2. Your phone number

It must ring you, today. Not the old landline, not whoever built your website years ago.

  3. Your website

The link must open your website, the right page, and work on a phone.

  4. Your category

It is how Google understands what you do. Pick the most precise one, not the most generic.

  5. Your photos

Real and recent: outside, inside, your work. People arriving should recognise the place.

  6. Edits made by others

Anyone can suggest changes to your profile. The full guide shows how to spot them.
